|ITALY, IDB SIGN AGREEMENT TO ESTABLISH TRUST FUND FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT|
|MILAN, Italy – Italy’s Minister for Innovation and Technologies, Lucio Stanca, and Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique V. Iglesias today signed an agreement for the establishment of a 3-million euro Italian Trust Fund for Information and Communication Technology for Development.|
The signing ceremony took place at the Fiera Milano Convention Center, where the IDB held a seminar on electronic governance of the Annual Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors.
The Italian Trust Fund will support IDB technical cooperation projects that promote the use of information and communication technology and electronic governance in social development, poverty reduction and transparency programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The resources donated by the Italian government, which will be administered by the IDB through the Information and Communication Technology for Development Division of its Sustainable Development Department, will provide grants to cover, among others, the costs of short- and medium-term consulting and professional services needed to supply technical assistance for the preparation and implementation of such programs.
The new trust fund reflects the shared interest of the Italian government and the IDB in promoting good governance, efficiency and accountability in the public and private sectors and equitable and sustainable development in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
